It's been a long road, but we're thrilled that Iridescent is complete.
We premiered the film at Augusta University on Friday, April 24th 2026. From there: we're submitting to film We've made a film that has pushed our new Animation program to the next level. It's been a journey. I first dreamed up Iridescent as a framework that I could work on with my students together. My first cohort of students (the OG Stargazers) crafted a couple of great pieces of concept art around 2021. After that, I developed the narration/poem that drives the piece. When my next cohort learned enough of 3D animation to start working on the film, we spent two semesters driving it forward. The bulk of the work came in this phase with the Boogie Cohort. We premiered our film and were proud of what we accomplished within the year. However, we had to trim a lot to make it happen. I spent some time working solo on the film to try to polish it up while co-directing the Flock of Forgotten Faces. I kept pushing it forward when I could. After the success of Flock, I looped in several excellent students and we pushed to get this film finished. We added a few scenes, kept working the character performances, and raised the standard across the board. I spent a lot of time designing the sound, including bringing on composer Tristan Arostegui to compose a wonderful score the film. New narration was recorded by our voiceover artist, Kayla Johnson, and we even recorded an end song with vocals. I hope you look forward to the final product. Keep Stargazing for the Amazing!
If you'd like to learn more, I made a mini-documentary on the process. You can watch that here:
