What a fantastic way to begin our festival run! Iridescent was selected for the Innovative Vision Award at Atlanta ShortsFest. A few of the crew made it to Atlanta to support the film. Assistant Director Tripp Gustin represented the film at the Awards Ceremony. We already had a soft spot for the Atlanta ShortsFest: this was the first festival selection for our previous film, The Flock of Forgotten Faces. Getting a category win for Iridescent is such a big moment for the students (and me) who have worked tirelessly for 4 years on this film. We're humbled to be selected among such excellent filmmakers.
The Innovative Vision Award recognizes a film that took creative risks or used unique storytelling or visual techniques. Iridescent was a massive collaboration, where the director (me) came up with narration and the students showed me what this world looked like. We worked together so that every student could make their own mark to planet Iridescent. We're hopeful our film is a unique one: entirely handcrafted with no Generative AI. We built 14 unique sets and over 20 characters and creatures in 3D. Sometimes creatures only get a single shot, but they always required a full animation rig. We're grateful to ATL ShortsFest for being such excellent hosts and putting on such a wonderful festival. If you worked on Iridescent or supported someone who did, we appreciate you.
